Never Alone is a puzzle platform game collaboration with the Inñupiat who are Alaskan Natives. The game is a traditional tale of Inupiat based around an Inupiat girl who is stuck in an internal blizzard. Then she is saved by an white fox who eventually becomes her companion. They both fight against a strong snowstorm which threatens her and the survival of her village. As you the game goes on, there are short clips which are interviews videos with members of Inupiat. In the short videos, the interviewers educate us about the area they discovered. The purpose of this game is educational. Throughout the game the players learn the culture, tradition and stories about the Alaskan Native people. The game is engaging because in order to keep the characters alive you have to be alert and make choices when encountering hardship and enemies. The purpose of the game was to make people experience the traditional lore of the Inupiat people and save the girl’s community. Games like Journey, That Dragon: Cancer and never alone create emotional, cognitive and compassionate empathy because you have to be present and put your shoes into the characters’ situations. These games’ purpose was to bring awareness of social, health and diversity issues that we are tackling with today. I really enjoy playing the game because I like the short clip that taught me about the culture of Inupiat people.
